On one of our days in Biarritz we drive to St Jean Pied de Port for the day.
[From https://caminoways.com/st-jean-pied-de-port-gateway-french-way ] : St Jean Pied de Port is one of the most significant towns on the Camino de Santiago. Not only is it the finishing point for the Le Chemin du Puy Camino, Vezelay Camino, and the Paris-Tours Camino, it also marks the start of the famous Camino Frances. The town itself was founded in the 12th century after the original nearby town of Saint-Jean-le-Vieux was razed to the ground by Richard I of England.
We are hungry and find this delicious crepe restaurant - cheese and egg, yum, and the couple who own it working their butt off.
We head up the main street. There are a lot of Camino walkers. We talk about whether we could walk for many days like them - we decide we prefer bikes. These are some of the back packs.
A shop where you can buy gear.
I compare Bill's back pack.
Queueing for their hotel / place to stay for the night. This doesn't look like fun.
About walking and why it started.
Bill spotted the local sports stadium.
We go back to Biarritz through Bayonne. There is a magnificent church. Bill loves churches.
And he loves shops. I don't think Bill even saw this one next to the church.
This has lovely cheeses. Closer to a shop Bill might like, though it's not lunch or dinner time.
Typical buildings in old Bayonne.
We need these little buses in Waiheke, instead of big buses with only 4 or 5 people in them. At least Waiheke's are electric too, like these.
Maybe we could tandem bike the Camino?
