Saturday/Rāhoroi
15th June
Today we were at the 4th hole. I worked my way to the front and stood beside a lady whose son was a shot off making the cut to get into the tournament. She told me her son was at golf school with Adam Scott who we were watching. Scott was in the bunker. When her son was looking at a school (university) to go to, her mother doubted Las Vegas. She said strip clubs and gambling would sidetrack him. The son mentioned Adam Scott was going there, and the mother said OK, she liked him going there after all. The reason was because she said Adam Scott was Perfect with a capital P. He had the perfect swing and everything about him was PERFECT.
Then Adam hit the Perfect shot out of the bunker, but he missed the putt and he had a 4 on a par 3 - imPerfect . . .
The conversations that stick with you. That was one of them. I will follow Adam Scott more closely.
Below, Jon Rahm after a spectacular shot to hit over the bunker on the 4th to set up a possible birdie, and then he missed it. (I used the trick of "Can I please sneak past you? You can still see and would you mind?" They said "Of course.") I like this shot because you can get close to the players even when you are short!
Watch out for Sepp Straka below. He is powerful.
Ko au te hahaupōro. Ko te hahaupōro ko au.
