Thursday/Rāpare
Bill went to the gym, I did some yoga, gym and a swim, and then we both went in the ice pool. We stayed in the room after our delicious breakfast for the morning, and then left to go to Beamish Museum and then on to Newcastle.
From Beamish Museum website: "Beamish is best known for being the home of the Living Museum of the North. It was the brainchild of a Yorkshireman, Frank Atkinson, who began collecting artefacts related to the social and industrial history of North East England."
You get around the museum on a tram, or a 1930's bus, or walk.
We went firstly to the Pit Village. This was all about coal production in the region and everything that goes with that. Coal production reached its peak in 1913.
Of course we had to visit the school house.
We didn't have fish and chips as we are eating too much, and had a big breakfast. We will just have one other meal today.
Then we walked to the 1900's Town. Shops selling wares, including of course a sweet shop.
And the horse and cart gear in the stables area which caught Bill's eye.
And then the 30 minute drive from Beamish to Newcastle, to hand the car back to Budget.
And then we settled in to watch tennis/tēnehi at the Victoria Comet pub, which is near the Grey Street Hotel where we are staying. We watched Nick Kyrgios v Rafael Nadal - it was exciting as Kyrgios is unpredictable and temperamental, and Rafa is legendary. Rafa won 3 sets to 1. Nick doesn't use a gentlemanly approach and it is quite interesting to hear what he is going to say.
