Sunday/Rātapu
Our long time Kiwi mates Shayne and Reg live 10mins walk from Lords. (We had stayed there when we went to the Black Caps - Australia game.) We went to Lords with them to check we couldn't get a ticket or four for the World Cup Final between England and New Zealand. We found one ticket - for 2,000 pounds, so we went back to Shayne and Reg's.
So we settled in at Randolph Crescent. Lachie joined us.
Reg set up two screens, one for the cricket, one for the Wimbledon mens' final.
Reg's Sister Justine and her husband and their four girls were arriving from the airport. So Shayne and I went for a walk to look at the local pub. Maybe we could watch the finals there.
Happily we could all fit at Shayne and Reg's. It was getting way too exciting for anyone to leave.
And then the result you know. From the Telegraph:
"England have won the World Cup. It feels good to write those words and to soak in the outpouring of joy that comes with their thrilling victory over New Zealand. So let’s try to sum up: England are world champions after tying with New Zealand on 241 each after their respective 50 overs. They both scored 15 in the super-over shootout – but England won thanks to hitting more boundaries in their 50 overs.
It is England’s first ever Cricket World Cup and follows final defeats in 1979, 1987 and 1992.
Ben Stokes was England’s hero with the bat after he bludgeoned 15 from the final over of the regular innings, including a bizarre six by way of four overthrows. He was made man of the match.
England’s captain Eoin Morgan said: “It’s been an absolutely incredible journey ... I still can’t quite believe it.” New Zealand’s captain Kane Williamson, who was made player of the tournament, said: “Just gutted ... There’s a lot of disappointment.”
And then our favourite tennis player Fed did not win either. Djokovic won after Fed had two match points and but clawed his way back into the game.
I thought Roz, my English friend summed it up well in an email.
Hi Tolly, Were you at the cricket yesterday? I don’t know (or care!) much about cricket, but I just read this account in the Guardian, and it sounds epic! I hope you enjoyed it, even though it seems very cruel that NZ didn’t win.
Much love, Roz

When we got home I went to a website I love. It is called Mantle of the Expert. I absorb myself in this site.
"Kia Ora colleagues, Finally, a post exploring a digital possibility for evoking a 'fictional other' ... how a fun - and free animation tool called 'voki' can be useful in the drama classroom. Do you have other go-to digital tools that you incorporate in your drama teaching? Please reply to this post and tell us more!" Nga mihi, Viv Aitken."
This is all about schools looking at things from different perspectives and acting out roles from different perspectives. I think young people need a course in this as well as the Black Caps, Federer and most of us. We would not have a culture of winning and losing and be so disappointed and gutted if this was the case. We would understand winning and losing and not get so attached I think. I don't reply as I am not in the classroom and I do imagine being in the classroom to role play all the scenarios of the Cricket World Cup final and from different perspectives. See how the blow begins to soften.
