Monday/Rāhina
We saw Royal Portrush Golf Course from a different angle as we headed north for a look around. This is the 5th hole which is a par 4. We saw two golfers drive this green and get birdies. The green is to the right of the right-hand bunker in the distance, hidden behind the mound. There were 4 eagles scored on this hole over the weekend.
The 5th green.
This is where we were heading.
Bushmills Distillery has been making whiskey since 1608.
We did not stick around to have a whiskey or tour the distillery. Lunch seemed like a better offer.
Then we toured a bit more around Portrush. This is a better view of the accommodation we had had for the week. Top row, the grey/blue house.
And then we checked into our new accommodation, Sinead's Air Bn'b. She has called it Fairy Cottage. She said we could leave the car at her place and other gear, while we biked for four days. She was super generous and a super Superhost. I thought when I was an Air Bn'b Superhost I was about half as generous.
This was on her front door, which summed up her clean home and the kind, warm person she is.
At 8pm Seamus came to Fairy Cottage to give us our bikes for the next four days. He has run and owned Ireland by Bike for 10 years. Before that he was a tiler. He is a very keen biker, and we were pleased to hear his tips and stories. He gave us a very comprehensive session on everything on the bikes, and showed us where to go for our tour, and places to eat.
He thought we might like a photo of us, or I might have suggested we haven't many photos of us!
And the bikers get ready.
Here is the beautiful Sinead and me. You can't have all scenery shots! She said we could do our washing too. That was more super generous. The Fairy Cottage was home where the heart is.. There was also Skippy who was a Jack Russell. Bill usually does not like dogs. He didn't complain once! Sinead said if he gave us any trouble to put him in the kitchen and shut the door. Bill suggested to put him in the kitchen immediately. Skippy, I thought was a gem like Sinead.
Our stay with Sinead was memorable. I watched a David Attenborough documentary with her. It was on hippos. Anyone going to Portrush and wanting accommodation, a stay with Sinead really is a must ...
