Sunday/Rātapu
Bill found another long time Oxford friend (Sir) Peter Donnelly to go to the cricket with today.
I meanwhile stayed around Forest of Arden. I had successfully applied to AUT for students to carry out a computer science project around my game. It is four students each giving 10 hours a week for two semesters. I got this contract just a few days ago, so today was the day to get clearer on what we could do. The brief I had submitted was to intersect Maori, board games, young people, and eels. So Lachie came up with an idea for them to put level 1 Lets Go Eels online like online chess. So that is what we are going to do. I am a little bit excited about this as I can visualise 4 year olds getting to love eels. This will make a massive difference in years to come. They will save them and we won't lose them all and our rivers will improve because they learnt about them in a game. I set up a meeting with the students, and their supervisor to play the game. I also worked on my blog, went to the gym, swam, and read the paper.
Elver eels climb the waterfall on the rocks in real life and in the game.
A famous eel at Waiheke. She was probably more than 100 years old - like a seal in width and 1.3m long. Robfrom the eco-village there loved her and would pick her up - lovely to watch. She has sadly left, in a flood and hopefully made it to the South Fiji Basin to breed. She was carrying at least 4 million eggs. She won't come back but maybe her young will.
Ripley and I playing the game last year.
There was also an Indian wedding at Forest of Arden today - the groom arriving in front courtyard.
I kept an eye on the cricket. This from Fox Sports: "Australia have taken control of the first Ashes Test thanks to centuries from Steve Smith and Matthew Wade at Edgbaston, where England will enter day five in survival mode as they confront a record chase of 398. Smith’s 142 and Wade’s 110 were the highlights of a fourth day of dominance from Australia in Birmingham, where the visitors put themselves in the box seat for a comeback victory of epic proportions."
Peter, our Australian friend, had a great day Bill said - he loved watching this.
