After yesterday's architectural tour, Chiara was keen to go to the Design Museum. On the way I grab a picture of some old architecture. This is one of four buildings which make up the Amalienborg Palace, this is Marble Church. These are the official residences of the Danish royal family. Margrethe II is the current Queen of Denmark, since 1972.
This is a wider view.
And I thought I should put in the little Mermaid, which is a landmark of the older Copenhagen, although we didn't get to her this trip . . .
We arrive at the Design Museum. I looked for chairs for our new apartment. Not this one. It is too old looking.
Maybe this one. It might be too modern.
I like this one. It is 1980's - to remember when Bill and I married.
This one Jay and Jeni can sit on. It is parents' vintage,
This is just right. It was designed by Isobel in 2006 and she spent a lot of time researching for an academic type (Bill) and a person who likes to blog (me). I will have twelve of these for the dining room table.
On to find a harbour swimming pool. This architect builds buildings like containers.
The Copenhagen Opera House below was funded by the wealthiest man in Denmark, AP Møller. (He made his money in the shipping and transportation business.) He said he would pay for a building if he could control where it went. Copenhagen politicians originally said "No" and then decided they couldn't let the gift go by. Alice didn't like where the building had been situated, or the design. (A web comment was "The building faces the Amalienborg Palace across the harbor, which led several architecture critics to complain that the exterior structure of the opera house makes the queen's residence look small and humble.") It is not an 'open to the public' building Alice said, and it does not embrace the modern Copenhagen, sustainable and world leading in design.
Alice says at a festival once a year keen jumpers use the roof of the Opera House as a diving platform and dive into the harbour. (They must build it out some how!)
We head to Reffen harbour pool for a swim.
Quite crowded. We look for a spot and find one.
We read, and swam like a local.
Saw a bride come off a boat.
Sustainable stuff.
Another boat.
This is a student housing building beside the water.
Something to eat in Reffen - it is an outdoor eating place, with foods from lots of different countries around the world. Everyone bikes or ferries here, except Lachie and Chiara. They bussed.
This I could set up in Waiheke.
I like Chiara's vege option.
We eat. (We have eaten, Ed.)
Not a selfie Bill. I got someone else to take.
The bike home.
Stag do bike we passed on the way.
We called in at the Mikkeller & Friends bar on the way home.
