At our house Buka, Kevin and Damon from Blossom, Branches and Bricks were landscaping the last corner of our property. This is Buka and Kevin.
Buka asked me if I wanted extra vitamins? "Would I like to eat a huhu bug?" "No," I replied. Here it is. They wedge themselves in a wooden root and have a life. She/he is quite beautiful.
And a close up.
They are setting up this last corner, plus look at this washing line now! I can stand on a platform and put the washing out and not sprain my ankle. I have never been so happy to put washing out. This is Damon and Kevin.
And Buka in the rain. They work hard.
This is Tolly's Folly (the only flat piece of land on the property).
The love shack - the guest room. I love that lancewood. Great choice Buka.
We have planted natives over three years. We are planting 133 more as a carbon offset for our overseas travels so far.
A shout out to Cameron, who maintains the garden - it's a big job.
The view from Tolly's Folly (of Onetangi Beach) above the house.
A close up of mountain flax, five finger and coprosma.
The vege garden and retaining fence, which goes down 12 metres. The fence is covered in tecamanthe. This was thought to be an extinct native, then they discovered it on Little Barrier and have returned it to the Waiheke and the mainland.
Another view, this from below. Corner of main house, with the Loveshack up the top. (The builders named this and it has stuck.)
Newest landscaping, planting of natives, and Kevin.
The house.
A new path, which cuts the time to the outside shower after my swim.
The view from the house. This is our only home now. It is different not having our family home, and freeing at the same time. This feels like home already.
