We left Design Suites at about 9.30am, grabbing a large coffee and tea on the way. We were driving to see Perito Moreno Glacier, the biggest scenic attraction in these parts. We thought the road was good and it would give us some independence to drive. Here are some shots of the trip there, and then the start of the National Park. The first one was the first greenery we saw since leaving El Calafate - about an hour earlier.
We went on this boat to get to the face of the glacier.
While I was taking photos I spotted this couple - a celebration of nature, or a keep warm thing?
Getting to the glacier.
From Wikipedia: "The terminus of the Perito Moreno Glacier is 5km wide, with an average height of 74 m (240 ft) above the surface of the water of Argentino Lake, in Argentina. It has a total ice depth of 170 metres (558 ft). Despite that most of the innumerable glaciers worldwide are retreating as a result of global warming and climate change, one of the few unusual glaciers that maintains a state of equilibrium is the Perito Moreno glacier because it continues to accumulate mass at a rate similar to that of its loss.[1] The reason remains debated by glaciologists.[2]"
We were hearing ruptures on our tour and I could not capture on video. I found this online of Perito Moreno glacier rupturing 2016.
We didn't see one as big as this! It was a fun day trip though. We wandered around the park before driving back to El Calafate.
