From Wikipedia .....The 2022 United States Open Championship was the 122nd U.S. Open, the national open golf championship of the United States. It was a 72-hole stroke play tournament that was played between June 16–19 at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, a suburb west of Boston. It was the club's fourth U.S. Open, having been held there in 1913, 1963, and 1988.
The 1913 Open was particularly famous because a young US amateur caddy called Francis Ouimet, who lived across the road from The Country Club, won it (in an 18 hole playoff) against the Tiger Woods and Jon Rahm (although he was English) of his day. And it was the scene of a famous Ryder Cup victory by the US in 1999, the "Battle of Brookline" where they came from way behind on the last day to beat Europe.
We followed Rory McIlroy on the first day, he was off early. We walked all the holes we could get access to - around holes 13-15 was a bit difficult. He was playing with Xander Schauffele (in this photo), and Hidieki Matsuyama who won last year's Masters and we also like and have watched alot in the Presidents' Cup.
Some holes from the course - this is the 4th (and looking up the 5th fairway) and then the 3rd.
Brooks Koepka on hole 2.
I stood on the table to get this shot on hole 10. This is not where you're supposed to play your second from.
Nor this for Xander. But it gets them closer for us :).
Jordan Speith.
This was Rory on day 4. We followed him hoping for a big run at the lead. He started well - a birdie here at the 1st - but too many bogeys to match the birdies ruined his chances.
Not sure who here?
Turkeys. We saw a few on the course.
And the winner (from Wikipedia) ... Matthew Thomas Fitzpatrick is an English professional golfer. After winning the 2013 U.S. Amateur (at The Country Club), he later won his first professional tournament at the 2015 British Masters. In 2022 he won his first major championship and his first PGA Tour event at the U.S. Open.
We didn't actually follow him at all (he was playing with Dustin Johnson on the first two days and Bill is not a fan of his, even more so since he took the money and ran to the Saudi tour) but we were delighted that he won after all his hard work.
We had a win at the end too. The queue to get on the buses after the presentation was maybe 750m long. We found a gate for VIP guests and went that way, and joined the bus queue 50 meters from the front :).
And this is the train we took back to our hotel each day - it was very easy.
