We had an early start to catch the train to NYC with Lachie and Chiara - for two days there for Lachie and us before we fly to Costa Rica, Chiara flying out to Italy this evening.
The train trip is very scenic following the coast and the Hudson River.
Out for dinner that night.
Bagels in the morning across the street from out hotel, there were queues here most of the day.
We saw this (very long) queue too. Lachie asked what they were queueing for - a latest 19 y old sensation Conan Gray was releasing "Heather". They were all aged between 16 and 19.
The second day Lachie went to catch up with friends and we went to watch the NY Yankees play the Houston Astros at Yankee Stadium. Yankees had won a string of 12 in a row then been beaten by the Astros the night before. They got beaten again. It seemed like there were not many good catches, slide ins or run outs - the pitchers were too good. You could say it was a bit boring even, but fun to be there given baseball games don't happen like this in N.Z. and don't get crowds of 48,000!
Then at night it was out to a musical called' Come From Away'.
From Wikipedia: 'Winner of every major UK award for Best New Musical, Come From Away shares the incredible real-life story of the 7,000 air passengers from all over the world who were grounded in Canada during the wake of 9/11, and the small Newfoundland community that invited these ‘come from aways’ into their lives. As uneasiness turned into trust and music soared into the night, gratitude grew into friendships and their stories became a celebration of hope, humanity and unity.
Awarded the Tony® for Best Direction of a Musical, Christopher Ashley’s production guides audiences through a colourful and spirited cast of characters, brought to life by Olivier Award winning writing team Irene Sankoff and David Hein.'
It was fabulous.
Early the next morning we have more bagels, then head to an airport hotel to go to the gym and have an early night because we are on a very early morning flight to Costa Rica the next morning.
